Why do I need to send a photo of my driver's license?

To register for VRS, all providers — including Convo — must verify your residency in the U.S., as required by the FCC. A current driver’s licence is one of the most reliable ways to do this. If you don’t have one, there are alternative documents you can submit.

Submitting your driver’s licence helps verify your residency — a requirement for getting VRS under FCC rules.

Residency verification

All VRS providers in the U.S.—including Convo—are overseen by the FCC and therefore must comply with its regulations.

Under FCC policy, VRS is only eligible for deaf, hard-of-hearing, deafblind, or speech-disabled people, which is why the FCC requires that we go through this verification process. Your driver's license is one of the best ways to verify your residency to ensure that you are eligible to use VRS.

Alternative documents

If you don't have a driver's license, there are alternative documents for you to submit.
