Why do I have to share the last 4 digits of my SSN for registration?

All VRS providers, including Convo, follow FCC regulations to ensure VRS is available only to eligible users. The last four digits of your SSN are used to confirm your identity during registration. This step is required by law and helps keep the system secure and fair.

Sharing the last four digits of your SSN helps verify that you’re eligible for VRS — as required by the FCC.

Identity verification

All VRS providers in the U.S.—including Convo—are overseen by the FCC and therefore must comply with its regulations.

Under Federal Communications Commission (FCC) policy, video relay service (VRS) can only be eligible for deaf, hard-of-hearing, deafblind, or speech-disabled people. The last four digits of your Social Security number are the best way to verify your identity to ensure that you are eligible to receive VRS.
