Convo Call | VRS Español: What It Is and How It Works

Convo VRS Español is available within Convo Call — there’s no separate app to download. It lets you make and receive VRS calls with Spanish-speaking family, friends, businesses, and other hearing callers.

When you activate VRS Español, a dedicated Spanish VRS number is added to your Convo account. Use that number to connect directly to a Video Interpreter who can communicate in ASL, English, and Spanish, without needing to transfer to another interpreter.

Why do I have a separate VRS Español number?

Convo uses a dedicated phone number for VRS Español because Spanish VRS calls are routed through a separate service designed to connect you directly with Video Interpreters who support Spanish-language calls.

When you activate VRS Español, you'll have two VRS numbers connected to your Convo account:

  • Your English VRS number for English VRS calls
  • Your VRS Español number, labeled ESP, for Spanish VRS calls

Your English VRS number cannot be used to place a VRS Español call. To make a Spanish VRS call, select your VRS Español number before placing your call.

What makes Convo VRS Español different?

When you use your VRS Español number, your call connects directly through VRS Español. You don't need to connect with an English Video Interpreter first and request a transfer to a Spanish-speaking interpreter.

Simply select your ESP number and make your call.

How do I start using my VRS Español number?

Once you've registered for and received your VRS Español number, it will be connected to your Convo account.

If you've just activated VRS Español, log out of Convo Call and log back in. Your VRS Español number should then appear on the Home screen labeled ESP.

Managing and switching between your numbers works the same way as managing multiple numbers in Convo Call.

How do I make a VRS Español call?

Before placing your call:

  1. From the Convo Call Home screen, select your phone number labeled ESP.
  2. Enter the number you want to call.
  3. Place your call.

Your call will connect directly through VRS Español.

When you want to make an English VRS call, select your English VRS number before placing the call.

Can Spanish-speaking people call me directly?

Yes! Give Spanish-speaking family, friends, businesses, or other hearing callers your VRS Español number.

When they call your VRS Español number, they'll connect directly through VRS Español without needing to request a transfer to a Spanish-speaking interpreter.

Do I need to have my ESP number selected to receive a Spanish VRS call?

No. You can receive incoming calls to your VRS Español number regardless of which number is currently selected in Convo Call.

For example, if your English VRS number is currently selected and someone calls your VRS Español number, you'll still receive their call through VRS Español.

The number you select in Convo Call determines which VRS service you use when making an outgoing call. It does not affect your ability to receive incoming calls to your other VRS number.

How do I switch between my English and VRS Español numbers?

Switching between your English and ESP numbers works the same way as switching between multiple numbers in Convo Call.

Before making an outgoing call, select the number you want to use:

  • Spanish VRS call: Select your number labeled ESP
  • English VRS call: Select your English VRS number

Do I need a separate app or Convo account for VRS Español?

No. VRS Español is available within Convo Call. You don't need to download another app or create a separate Convo account.

Once VRS Español is activated, your VRS Español number is added to your existing Convo account. You can switch between your English VRS number and VRS Español number in Convo Call depending on the type of outgoing call you want to make.

Does Convo VRS Español provide translation services?

No. VRS Español is part of Convo's Video Relay Service. It connects VRS calls with Video Interpreters who can communicate in ASL, English, and Spanish.

It is not a standalone translation service.

Don't have a VRS Español number yet?

You'll need a VRS Español number before you can make or receive VRS Español calls.
